SouthIndian Recipe: Pavakka Theeyal

Ingrediants:
  1. Bitter gourd (Pavakka) - 1 nos
  2. Sliced Onion- 1 nos
  3. Water – 1 cups
  4. Shredded coconut - 2 handfuls
  5. Green Chillies - 2 nos
  6. Chilly powder - 1/2 tbsp
  7. Turmeric powder -1/4 tsp
  8. Coriander powder - 1 tbsp
  9. Black Pepper - 1/2 tbsp
  10. Salt - As reqd
  11. Oil - 3 tbsp
  12. Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
  13. Curry leaves - a few
  14. Dry Red chillies - 3 nos
  15. Tamarind (soaked in water) - A gooesberry size

Preparation:
  1. Cook onion, bitter gourd, green chillies and salt by adding 1 cup of water.
  2. Heat up pan roast coconut and black pepper till it begins to turn brown.
  3. Add chilly powder, coriander powder and turmeric powder and roast for a few more minutes.
  4. Grind the above into a fine paste by adding 1/2cup of water.
  5. Add this paste into the bitter gourd and mix well.
  6. Add tamarind juice and cook for a few more mins..
  7. Heat oil in another pan and splutter mustard seeds, red chillies and curry leaves.
  8. Pour the above seasoning into the curry and mix well.
