SouthIndian Recipe: Pavakka Theeyal
Ingrediants:- Bitter gourd (Pavakka) - 1 nos
- Sliced Onion- 1 nos
- Water – 1 cups
- Shredded coconut - 2 handfuls
- Green Chillies - 2 nos
- Chilly powder - 1/2 tbsp
- Turmeric powder -1/4 tsp
- Coriander powder - 1 tbsp
- Black Pepper - 1/2 tbsp
- Salt - As reqd
- Oil - 3 tbsp
- Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
- Curry leaves - a few
- Dry Red chillies - 3 nos
- Tamarind (soaked in water) - A gooesberry size
Preparation:
- Cook onion, bitter gourd, green chillies and salt by adding 1 cup of water.
- Heat up pan roast coconut and black pepper till it begins to turn brown.
- Add chilly powder, coriander powder and turmeric powder and roast for a few more minutes.
- Grind the above into a fine paste by adding 1/2cup of water.
- Add this paste into the bitter gourd and mix well.
- Add tamarind juice and cook for a few more mins..
- Heat oil in another pan and splutter mustard seeds, red chillies and curry leaves.
- Pour the above seasoning into the curry and mix well.
