Indian Recipe: Kalan (Pulissery)
Ingrediants:- Raw banana(Paccha Ethakai) - 2
- Green chillies(slit the edge) - 8 nos
- Water - 1 cup
- Turmeric powder - ¼ tsp
- Salt - As reqd
- Curd (mashed well) -1 cup
- Coconut(grated) - ½ of one
- Cumin seeds(Jeerakam) - ¼ tsp
- Fenugreek(Uluva) (fried and powdered)- ½ tsp
- Garlic – 3 nos
- Oil - 2 tbsp
- Dry red chillies(broken into two) - 2 nos
- Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
- Curry leaves - 1 a few
Preparation:
- Remove the skin of the raw banana and cut it into small cubes
- Cook raw banana, turmeric powder, green chillies and salt in 1 cup of water.
- Grind coconut, garlic and cumin seeds to a smooth paste by adding 1/2 cup of water
- Add this to the cooked banana and bring to boil.
- When it begins to boil lower the flame.
- Add curd and mix well.
- Remove from flame.
- Heat oil in a pan and splutter mustard seeds, dry red chillies and curry leaves.
- Add this to the curry.
- Finally add the fenugreek powder.
