SouthIndian Recipe: Fish in Grated Coconut
(Meen Peera Pattichathu)
Ingrediants:
- Fish fillets or any small fish - 1 kg
- Coconut (grated) - 1 ½ cup
- Button onions (sliced) - 1cup
- Ginger (cut into long peices) - tbsp
- Green chillies (sliced) - 3
- Garlic (crushed) - 6 pods
- Chilli powder - ½ tbsp
- Turmeric powder - ½ tsp
- Curry leaves - a few
- Salt - to taste
- Fish tamarind (Kodam puli) soaked in water - 4 to 5
- Water - 1cup
- Coconut oil - 2 tbsp
Preparation:
- Mix and crush grated coconut, chilly powder, turmeric powder, ginger, chillies and crushed garlic using hand.
- Mix in the raw fish with the ingredients, curry leaves and salt to taste.
- Put the mixture in a pan add the fish tamarind and one-cup water.
- Add coconut oil.
- Bring to boil, lower the heat and allow all the water to evaporate.
