SouthIndian Recipe: Fish in Grated Coconut
(Meen Peera Pattichathu)

Ingrediants:
  1. Fish fillets or any small fish  - 1 kg
  2. Coconut (grated) - 1 ½ cup
  3. Button onions (sliced) - 1cup
  4. Ginger (cut into long peices) - tbsp
  5. Green chillies (sliced) - 3
  6. Garlic (crushed) - 6 pods
  7. Chilli powder - ½ tbsp
  8. Turmeric powder - ½ tsp
  9. Curry leaves - a few
  10. Salt  - to taste
  11. Fish tamarind (Kodam puli) soaked in water - 4 to 5
  12. Water  - 1cup
  13. Coconut oil - 2 tbsp

Preparation:
  1. Mix and crush grated coconut, chilly powder, turmeric powder, ginger, chillies and crushed garlic using hand.
  2. Mix in the raw fish with the ingredients, curry leaves and salt to taste.
  3. Put the mixture in a pan add the fish tamarind and one-cup water.
  4. Add coconut oil.
  5. Bring to boil, lower the heat and allow all the water to evaporate.
