Indian Recipe: Crab Theeyal
Ingrediants:- Crabs (cleaned and cut into 4 pieces) -5
- Coconut (cut into small pieces) – ¼ cup
- Grated coconut - 1/2 cup
- Fish tamarind soaked in water (Kodam puli) - 3 to 4 flakes (as required)
- Ginger (cut into long pieces) - 1 tbsp
- Button onion (cut into small pieces)- 2 to 3 pods
- Chilly powder - 1/2 tbsp
- Coriander powder - 1 tbsp
- Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
- Pepper powder - 1/2 tbsp
- Coconut oil - 1tbsp
- Salt - as required
- Water - 2 cup
- Curry leaves - a few
Preparation:
- Cook crabs along with coconut pieces, fish tamarind, ginger, salt and 1/4 cup of water for about 1 hr.
- In a pan fry grated coconut in low flame.
- When it begins to change its color to golden brown add all the powders and fry for 5 more minutes.
- Grind this into a fine paste by adding ½ cup of water.
- Add this to the crab and cook to boil.
- In a pan heat oil and fry onions and curry leafs.
- Add this to the curry and serve hot.
