Indian Recipe: Crab Theeyal

Ingrediants:
  1. Crabs (cleaned and cut into 4 pieces) -5
  2. Coconut (cut into small pieces) – ¼ cup
  3. Grated coconut - 1/2 cup
  4. Fish tamarind soaked in water (Kodam puli)  - 3 to 4 flakes (as required)
  5. Ginger (cut into long pieces) - 1 tbsp
  6. Button onion (cut into small pieces)- 2 to 3 pods
  7. Chilly powder - 1/2 tbsp
  8. Coriander powder - 1 tbsp
  9. Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
  10. Pepper powder - 1/2 tbsp
  11. Coconut oil - 1tbsp
  12. Salt - as required
  13. Water - 2 cup
  14. Curry leaves - a few

Preparation:
  1. Cook crabs along with coconut pieces, fish tamarind, ginger, salt and 1/4 cup of water for about 1 hr.
  2. In a pan fry grated coconut in low flame.
  3. When it begins to change its color to golden brown add all the powders and fry for 5 more minutes.
  4. Grind this into a fine paste by adding ½ cup of water.
  5. Add this to the crab and cook to boil.
  6. In a pan heat oil and fry onions and curry leafs.
  7. Add this to the curry and serve hot.
